The Liberty Tree needs to be refreshed from time to time with the blood of Patriots and Tyrants.

It must always be protected from jealous enemies, both foreign and domestic. Just as it was at the dawn of our republic, dark forces seek to undermine or destroy this Great Experiment of Democracy. The rights and freedom won by hard-fought battles over two and a half centuries must be renewed and refreshed continuously. The opportunist actors who feed at the trough, be they political, bureaucratic or unfair commercial players, cause systemic rot that threatens the Tree, and are more dangerous to the survival of a free America than enemies beyond our borders. Internal decay and departure from the core ideals of the Democracy is a sure path to self-destruction. Parasites of all types will attach to the nourishing host and must be forcibly removed, one-by-one if necessary, to prevent unrecoverable damage. When the very institutions and enterprises that were designed to reinforce and energize the Republic grow to a state that, instead, undermines their intended noble purpose, they must be reformed and brought to heel.

Corporate tyranny and bureaucratic over-reach must be reined in and their perpetrators called to account. In the ethos of American Democratic Capitalism, an appropriate measure to defang these enemies-behind-the-gates is to deprive them of their sustenance. The people in a fair-market, representative state can tame these adversaries by withholding the revenue that animates and motivates them. Patriots can simply Starve the Beasts. Failing that, more severe measures would be necessary to protect the hard-won rights of abiding Americans.

The pestilence of collectivism, in all its forms, must be neutralized and banished as it attempts to slither around the Liberty Tree. In spite of numerous and catastrophic failures of collectivist governments and organizations over the last two centuries, attempts to impose collective doctrine in America persists into the 21st century. The seductive promise of utopian communities has an allure that shines in academic form but fails utterly when tested against the realities of human nature and individual self-interest. The cooperation, solidarity and harmony espoused by the collectivist fever-dream, hides the decay of groupthink, conformity and paternalism that arm their demons lurking in the shadows.  By definition, collectivism can only exist when the foundational tenents of American Democratic Capitalism are abandoned – namely preeminence of the individual, private property rights and the just rule of law.

Past, Present & Future

Learn from the Past in order to correct the imperfections that attend the human condition and benefit from the experience of those that came before. There is a tremendous well of knowledge and wise counsel provided by the Founders – study and reflect on their gifts of vision and direction. Often the best lessons are those of what not to do. The goal of a more perfect union is advanced when we recognize the human frailty and imprecision of good intentions. Honor the noble contribution and sacrifice of our forebears while criticizing and forgiving acts borne of lesser angels, especially your own. Do not dwell in the past and only carry wisdom and affection forward. Harbor No Regrets. Everything that occurred before this moment is only important as a lesson. History, and the clear view of all it entails, will provide the direction for present action and markers for the righteous path forward. Understand our relative place on the arc-of-time and the context of the periods of history. Leave corrosive condemnation and retribution of perceived offenders to the collectivists and their ilk. It will further decay their position and power.

Live in the Present under the umbrella of the rights, freedoms and responsibilities of all Americans.  Inflict No Pain on yourself or others except in defense. Recognize that pain and sadness are the part of being human that allows us to appreciate pleasure and happiness. Pursue Happiness for yourself and others. Rather than attempting to insulate from all pain, strive to make yourself a stronger, more resilient individual. Perfect the attributes of the original patriots and provide that benefit to those around you.

Plan for the Future in order to enjoy its promise when it becomes the present. Prepare for what comes next with No Fear of the unknown. Uncertainty and self-doubt will diminish your life unnecessarily. Worrying is akin to praying for what you don’t want. Do not live in the future or undue anticipation of it.

Nurture and enable the next generations and pass the bounty inherited from the forebears to posterity.

God Bless and Keep
